Telefunken Cine microphone:  In the world of film sound, few hold the position of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Circa 1954, MGM Chief Sound Engineer Stanley Church produced — for in-house use, and in very limited quantity — the obscurely famous MGM/Church "CineMic." Based around the M7 diaphragm, which MGM obtained from Germany, the design utilized a 6072 vacuum tube and an unusual high-voltage circuit, resulting in a sonic character that knowledgable engineers compare to the U47 and C-12.

Originally manufactured in a quantity less than 200, few recording engineers have had the opportunity to experience an original, functional example. TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik is pleased to offer our recreation of this venerable classic. The TELEFUNKEN "CineMic".

Utilizing a custom M7 capsule imported from Germany, the TELEFUNKEN CineMic is entirely handcrafted in the USA. While the mic retains the original style grill housing, mechanical construction and stand mounting hardware have been improved over the original design. The TELEFUNKEN "CineMic" sounds familiar, yet different. Features remote 9 pattern switch, M7 capsule. NOS 6072 vacuum tube in an adaptation of the original hi-gain CineMic circuit. Telefunken Elektroakustik USA..... perveyors of fine vintage design microphones. Perhaps the finest of all microphones, the ELA M 251, ELA M 250, C12, and U47 had their early beginnings with the German distribution company Telefunken before Neumann and AKG eventually grew to developing their own manufacturing and distribution functions. Today, to carry on that tradition of excellence, Telefunken Elektroakustik USA headquartered in South Windsor, CT, USA enables the recording and pro audio arts community ongoing access to these fine microphones. Telefunken USA posesses full ownership and licensure of all patents, drawings, manufacturing processes, and designs of the originals. Hand built to the same tolerances, drawing specifications, and artistry of the originals, these microphones embody everything as the "sanctimonius verbatim veritas", right down to the delicate screw shape and threads. The capsules are constructed as the originals, along with the original design 6072A and AC701K type tubes. As an option to the original packaging manufacture, Telefunken USA also offers a cost saving package differing only in the power supply cosmetic structure and capsule substrate ring tooling, yet still retaining the original backplate and diaphragm techniques (and assuredly the sound!). Truly fine products! Even endorsed by Allen Sides of Ocean Way Studios, the holder of the world's largest cache of Telefunken ELA M 251 vintage mics. Telefunken ELA M 251, Telefunken M 251, Telefunken 251, Tele 251, 251 are a few of the references to the famed Telefunken ELA M 251 (AC701 tube) and ELA M 251E (export, 6072A tube). The Telefunken ELA M 251E was the issue most available in the USA and had three polar patterns, omni-cardioid-figure 8. An alternate version was the Telefunken ELA M 250E, which featured omni and cardioid patterns, pattern-similar to the U47.

The various Telefunken 251 types manufactured today by Telefunken USA are listed within the entire Telefunken USA product line shown below. The Telefunken Platinum series {Telefunken ELAM 251E, Telefunken ELA M 251T, Telefunken ELA M 250E, Telefunken ELA C12, Telefunken U47/U48} are historically correct replicas and represent a meticulous reverse engineering of the original classic equipment; hand built and assembled in the USA.

Nostalgia cover and an excerpt from the first Ricky Nelson album. The use of Telefunken U-47M microphones (long body, chrome grilles, M7 capsules) were noted on subsequent Ricky Nelson albums as well. The record label at the time was Imperial Records. The catalog had been licensed or acquired by Capitol and EMI in later years. Telefunken USA is your best source for many authentic vintage design microphones, in particular the U47M, C12 and Ela M250/251 series models.
Frequency response curve sourced by Neumann era U47 (K47 capsule).. see similarity to U47fet (also K47 capsule) with bump and dip rises at 2kHz, 10kHz. Fig.8 pattern is for Neumann U48.
Frequency response curve sourced by Telefunken era U-47M (M7 capsule), general increase rise after 2kHz, yielding a glistening airy character.
